A maintenance interview is not a trivia contest. The employer is trying to predict what you will do at 2:00 a.m. when a critical machine stops, the operator is frustrated, the supervisor wants an answer, the drawing is old, and the fault is not obvious.
The safest and most valuable answer is usually not the fastest-sounding answer. Define the symptom. Control hazardous energy. Verify the basics. Use the drawing and diagnostics. Measure. Narrow the system. Repair the proven cause. Test the complete function. Document it. Escalate when the risk or complexity requires another person.
If you can consistently communicate that method, support it with real examples, and show that you respect safety and production equally, you will already be ahead of many candidates.
