Some vehicles use main relays or power distribution modules to feed engine controls, ignition coils, injectors, and other essential loads. If this supply disappears, the engine can stall and may not restart even though other accessories still work.
Heat-related relay or power-module faults can be intermittent. The vehicle may stop, refuse to crank or start, then recover after several minutes. When this happens, capture evidence while the fault is present. Once the system cools and works again, diagnosis becomes harder.
What to Look For
Do not confuse a reading with a conclusion. A meter showing 12 volts proves voltage is present at that moment; it does not automatically prove the circuit can deliver enough current under load.
Check whether affected modules still communicate with the scan tool, whether ignition-switched feeds are present, and whether relay commands and outputs agree. A single missing power feed can explain many downstream fault codes.
Power distribution centers can also suffer internal heat damage or poor terminal contact. Inspect the underside and terminals when service information and safe access allow.

Beginner Diagnostic Checklist
- Verify the exact symptom before touching anything.
- Check battery condition and obvious power/ground connections when relevant.
- Check the correct fuse and connector condition.
Stop and get help if: you cannot identify a safe test point or the vehicle may move unexpectedly.
