The first 90 days are about building context, references, a repeatable method, and one visible reliability win.

Days 1–10: learn the environment

Your first goal is not to prove how much you know. Learn site safety, escalation routes, lockout practices, critical production lines, workshops, storeroom, documentation locations, shift structure, and the people who know each area. Walk equipment in a safe state and learn asset names.

Find out which machines can stop the whole plant, which failures are common, which spares have long lead times, and which systems require special authorization.

Field habit: Create a map of people, assets, documents, and rules before trying to optimize anything.

Common trap: Do not make sweeping judgments about poor design or poor maintenance during your first week. Context matters.

Days 11–30: build references

Start collecting the information that makes future breakdowns faster: drawings, manuals, PLC/HMI backups, device part numbers, normal pressures, common alarm meanings, drive types, network topologies, lubrication points, and recent fault history. Learn how the site controls versions and access.

Choose two or three critical machines and trace their start sequence, safety readiness, control power, major drives, and key sensors.

Field habit: Write your own quick-reference notes, then verify them with experienced technicians.

Common trap: Do not create uncontrolled copies of software or documents if the plant has a formal repository.

Days 31–60: own small faults end to end

Take responsibility for manageable breakdowns from symptom definition through documentation. Use the same troubleshooting method every time. Ask for review after the job: what did you miss, what could you have checked sooner, what notes would have helped?

A sensor fault, pneumatic leak, contactor issue, or straightforward drive fault can be an ideal complete learning cycle.

Field habit: After each job, write one technical lesson and one process lesson.

Common trap: Do not measure growth only by the number of faults you solve without help. Good escalation is part of competence.

Days 61–90: improve one repeat problem

Once you understand the plant better, pick one recurring nuisance that has evidence and a realistic fix. Improve a cable route, add a label, refine a PM check, create a fault guide, standardize a spare, or correct a documentation gap. Small reliability improvements build trust because they outlast the breakdown.

Present the problem, evidence, proposed change, risk, cost, and how you will verify improvement.

Field habit: Choose a project small enough to finish and measure.

Common trap: Do not start your career by redesigning the whole plant. Finish one useful improvement first.
