Start by verifying the customer complaint or your own symptom. Record all codes and freeze-frame information. Decide what the suspect sensor actually measures and whether the reported value matches reality. Then identify the sensor type and circuit arrangement from reliable wiring information.

Next verify the basics: connector condition, power/reference supply, ground and signal behavior. Compare the sensor with related PIDs or a physical measurement. If the value changes smoothly and plausibly, the problem may be elsewhere. If the value is fixed, jumps, disagrees with reality or disappears under a specific condition, reproduce that condition while testing.

Only replace the sensor when the evidence supports it. After repair, clear codes if appropriate, repeat the operating condition that originally set the fault, and verify that the data now behaves correctly. A repair is not complete because the warning light went out for two minutes.

This workflow is deliberately repetitive. Good diagnosis is repetitive in the right way: confirm, measure, compare, prove, repair and verify.
