ABS systems monitor wheel speed and control braking during slip. A wheel-speed sensor fault can illuminate ABS, stability-control, traction-control, and sometimes other warnings because several systems share the same wheel-speed information.
Possible causes include damaged sensor wiring, corrosion, sensor failure, excessive bearing play, damaged tone rings or magnetic encoder rings, and connector problems. Some sensors are active electronic devices that require power and ground; others generate their own signal.
What to Look For
Compare both sides of the circuit whenever possible. Two similar lamps, two power windows, or left and right wheel sensors can provide a useful reference when one side behaves differently.
Scan data can compare wheel speeds while the car moves slowly. One wheel dropping to zero or reading differently provides a useful clue, but the cause may still be mechanical rather than purely electrical.
Do not probe ABS or airbag connectors with generic methods unless the service procedure specifically allows it. Safety systems require extra care.

- Verify the exact symptom before touching anything.
- Check battery condition and obvious power/ground connections when relevant.
- Check the correct fuse and connector condition.
Stop and get help if: wiring is overheating, smoking, melting, or repeatedly blowing a high-current fuse.
