Many engine and chassis sensors use three wires: a reference voltage from the control module, a signal wire, and a sensor ground. The sensor changes the signal in response to pressure, position, temperature, or another physical input.
If the reference supply is missing, multiple sensors that share the same reference circuit can set faults at the same time. One shorted sensor or damaged wire can sometimes pull down the reference for several sensors.
What to Look For
Compare both sides of the circuit whenever possible. Two similar lamps, two power windows, or left and right wheel sensors can provide a useful reference when one side behaves differently.
Before replacing a sensor because of a circuit code, check whether reference voltage and ground are present and whether the signal behaves plausibly. Service information is essential because not every sensor uses a 5-volt reference and not every signal should be tested the same way.
Never apply battery voltage to a sensor signal circuit. Electronic control-module inputs can be damaged by inappropriate test methods.

- Verify the exact symptom before touching anything.
- Check battery condition and obvious power/ground connections when relevant.
- Check the correct fuse and connector condition.
Stop and get help if: wiring is overheating, smoking, melting, or repeatedly blowing a high-current fuse.
