What to Look For
Work from the symptom outward. Note what still works, what fails at the same time, and whether the fault changes with heat, vibration, rain, or electrical load. These observations often tell you where to measure first.
Also stop when your test results do not make sense. Recheck meter settings, test points, service information, and assumptions before forcing a conclusion. Confusing data often means the test method is wrong, not that the car has an impossible fault.
A good handoff to a mechanic includes the exact symptom, when it occurs, voltage measurements, codes, parts already tested, and what changes the symptom. That information can reduce diagnostic time and prevent duplicate work.
